Rules and Procedures for Shared Interest Groups (SIGs)
SIGs are meant for learning, socializing, and enjoyment. SIGs may not be used to promote products or services or for other business purposes. SIGS may not engage in political activities.
SIGs are open only to OLÉ! members.
There is no fee to join a SIG except when needed to cover the cost of materials. There may be activities that members pay for directly, e.g., restaurant meals, transportation.
A SIG may establish a limit on the number of members. If a SIG involves a skilled activity, it may ask that members have a certain skill level in order to join.
A SIG’s membership and email list may be used only for communicating with SIG members about SIG business, such as meeting announcements.
A SIG will establish its own meeting schedule and location. OLÉ! generally does not provide meeting space.
Each SIG must have a designated coordinator and alternate, or two coordinators, who serve as points of contact for the SIG and who ensure that the SIG follows OLÉ!’s Rules and Procedures for SIGs.
A SIG coordinator will:
- Make sure that a list of SIG members is maintained (an optional membership roster form may be downloaded from this website);
-
Make sure that attendance is recorded at all SIG meetings (an optional attendance form may be downloaded from this website);
-
Make sure that SIG members are informed by email or phone of meeting dates, times, locations, and any changes;
-
Update as needed the information about the SIG on the OLÉ! website;
-
Respond to requests to join the SIG and to inquiries by prospective SIG members;
-
Periodically inform the OLÉ! SIG Committee of: the SIG’s activities; the number of active members; the SIG’s regular meeting time and location; changes in coordinators; and any problems;
-
Upon request, make available to the OLÉ! SIG Committee the SIG membership and attendance records.
If photos or video will be taken during SIG activities, the SIG may be required to obtain signed permission forms from members.
If a SIG involves a potentially risky activity, the SIG must adopt appropriate safety procedures and may be required to obtain a signed waiver/release form from members.
SIGs must act consistently with the purposes and values of OLÉ! and be inclusive and respectful of OLÉ! members.
